Exotic Brittany. The Museum of Fine Arts in Quimper hosts an exhibition on the theme of Japanese art in Brittany and the relationship between Brittany and Japan.Japonsime manifested itself in particular with the influence of the art of engraving on Western artists from the 1860s, including the School of Pont-Aven painters, Emile Bernard, Paul Gauguin, Paul Serusier Georges Lacombe and Charles Filiger, and the Nabis group. They found new ways to represent space and effected graphic innovations. The exhibition presents this influence based on the theme of the tree and the forest, so dear to Symbolist and Nabis artists.
